 Pellet Stove Accessories

Pellet stoves are an economical and environmentally friendly way of heating your home. It is fuelled by wood chips and shavings that used to be disposed as garbage. Feeding of pellets into the burn pot and igniting them are fully automated making operation a breeze. Highly efficient heat exchangers and fan blowers facilitate the transfer of heat from the stove into the room with a minimum of heat loss. All you need to do is to turn the switch on, set a few buttons or knobs to choose temperature levels, and sit back.

Operating a pellet stove is easy but there are a few accessories that can either enhance its operation or lighten the maintenance required. These include an ash vacuum, cleaning systems, coal hod, and hopper extension.

An ash vacuum is a convenient and useful tool for removing both hot and cold ashes from the ash pan of your pellet stove. It is made of fire-retardant materials so there is no danger from vacuuming even hot ashes. Designed to trap fine dust, ash vacuums keep your room spotlessly clean.

As with any device, your pellet stove needs periodic cleaning. With a good set of cleaning system, you can do the cleaning yourself. These should include a plastic rigid brush, preferably one with an extension rod, that can be fastened to an electric drill and flexible brushes. You can use the long rigid brush to reach the straight sections of the piping, while the flexible brushes can be used for their curved sections.

For storing your pellets, you can purchase a coal hod. There are plenty of beautifully designed containers available in the market. This certainly beats keeping your pellets in the paper sack it is contained in.

Hopper extensions are useful if you do not want to be continually refilling the pellet stove’s hopper. Some extensions can accommodate enough pellets to allow continuous burning for five or even six days.

These accessories are usually available from the pellet stove stores. It is recommended that you can purchase them with your stove, as these are important both for its functioning and maintenance.
