How are Wood Pellets Made?

A pellet stove can heat up the room or the entire home effectively without the use of electricity or gas. This heating unit burns compressed wood pellets to create a source of heat that’s continuous and very comfortable. The feeder in every pellet stove automatically drops pellets to burn if it senses that the fire is getting low. There won’t be any need to stoke the fire or manually add pellets. If you are currently using pellet stoves, aren’t you curious as to how these wood pellets are made?

To make wood pellets, sawdust, wood shavings, wood chips and other lumber by-products are grounded together to uniform each of these pieces. After grinding, the mishmash of by-products is then dried to reduce their moisture level.

Next, the wood by-products are processed into a mill to further refine them until they are roughly the size of rice grains. The resulting wood fiber is then pushed into a row of presses to make the pellets. The pellet presses roll the wood fiber and pushes them out to a small hole to make pellets. The finished pellets are then cooled to further separate them.

Now that you know how wood pellets are made, you will learn to appreciate them more as to how they effectively provide heat for you and your family during the cold season.
